Whether you're planning for a brand new career or thinking about upgrading your skills in response to a changing workplace, College of San Mateo encourages you to check out our career programs, which are listed on the left side of this page.
Quality, relevant training
"Many of our career programs instructors work in their fields of expertise and provide up-to-date, hands-on work-skills training," says CSM President Michael Claire. "This is critical to adequately preparing our students for the current workplace."
Educational options abound
These programs offer the opportunity to earn a certificate in just one year. But you can also obtain an associate's degree in two or, in some cases, the programs can prepare you for transfer to a bachelor's degree program.
Scheduling choices to meet your needs
"We know, too, that most people in our career programs are working," Claire says, "so we offer many scheduling options, such as evening classes, online courses and telecourses. Plus, our Cooperative Work Experience Education program allows CSM students to earn college credit for learning on their jobs."
Community partnerships
"It's common for us to survey the community's businesses to determine employment needs and then respond with new programs or enhance the ones we already offer," Claire adds. "In fact, one example is our revamped biotechnology certificate program and our launching of a series of new courses aligned with emerging technologies. Basically, we train students from the community to work in the community-it's a win-win situation."
And it's no secret that if you check the rosters of workplaces in the Peninsula, you'll find an abundance of CSM graduates, especially in the areas of fire technology, nursing and dental assisting, to name just a few. The success of CSM's career program grads is attributable to the solid relationships that CSM has established with the community's employers and the assistance students receive from the College's career services counselors.
