Building 1's main doors will be closed and used for emergencies only for at least a month, starting July 6 through at least August 7. You may enter and exit through the doors on the rear side of the building only. Please refer to our map online to get a visual look at the temporary changes. A wheelchair path has been created at the rear corner of the building, along with a path that leads to the main campus. Building 1 houses admissions, counseling, cashiers, registration, security or other services.

Also, we are providing tips to assist you while navigating through campus during the construction period.

The Scope of work

With contractors using "green" design and construction methods, major construction and renovation is taking place at College of San Mateo and impacts getting onto campus, parking, and foot traffic. Building 5, the Student Center, has been demolished to be replaced by a new building that will house various health services programs (nursing, cosmetology, and dental), general purpose classrooms, and a fitness facility. A new aquatic center will also be built. Move in is scheduled for Fall 2010. Fencing has been erected around the building site for your protection. Building 10, 11, and 13 have been demolished to be replaced by a Student Center. Fencing has also been erected around that building site for your protection. Move in to the new building is scheduled for Fall 2011 Semester and will be a "one-stop shop" of student services, including Admissions & Records, Counseling, Career Services, Financial Aid, Food Service, and the Bookstore. It will also house an Integrative Learning Center, a centralized tutorial and student support lab. Additionally, renovation in Buildings 2, 4, 14 & 16 is now virtually complete; however, at the entrance point to the Fine Arts Complex (Buildings 2, 3, and 4) an elevator and new stairwell are being constructed near parking Lot 2A. Please see map for the location. Check out the Web Cameras to watch the campus evolve.

Getting onto campus
Getting onto campus has changed significantly. What was the main entrance can still be used but entrance will be allowed to proceed to Lot 14 only. From that point on, traffic will be moving one-way in the opposite direction. Essentially, unless you are going to park in Lot 14 to access the athletic fields area, you should remain on Hillsdale Boulevard, turn left and park in Lots 15 and 16, or continue driving on the boulevard to reach other lots and virtually all campus buildings, including the Bookstore, Child Development Center, Regional Public Safety Center, and Softball Field. Please look for signage for assistance. Also, expect delays in getting onto campus. Please always proceed with caution and thank you for your patience.

Parking
Because of construction, major parking Lots 1,2, 3, and 4 have been closed, except for disabled parking in Lot 3. But parking all over campus has been impacted. Please visit collegeofsanmateo.edu/map for a current map designating parking lot changes.

Foot Traffic

Once on campus, look for signage and campus employees for assistance as you navigate around construction. The west entrance to College of San Mateo's Fine Arts Complex will be closed to all pedestrian traffic beginning at 4 pm on Thursday, March 19, until mid-August. The entrance is closest to parking Lot 2A and just past Building 4A. This entry point did lead to the theatre and art and music classrooms, located in Buildings 2, 3 and 4. Please see map for the location. All pedestrian traffic is now routed around Building 2, along the perimeter road. Students parking in Lots 15 and 16 will need to walk along the perimeter road to reach the main campus. Access to Buildings 2, 3, and 4 will only be available through the east entrance, near Parking Lot 5. Please use map for a reference. This closure is necessary to construct a new elevator and stairwell at this location. For the new location of programs and services that were housed in the now-closed Buildings 5 (Student Activities, Transfer Services, Main Cafeteria), 10, 11 and 13, visit the reception desk in Building 1 or call (650) 574-6161.
