Construction Notices

Major construction and renovation at College of San Mateo has begun and will impact getting onto campus, parking and foot traffic.

Web Cameras
Watch the campus evolve via our web cams.

The Scope of work

Building 5, the Student Center, has been demolished to be replaced by a new building that will house various health education programs (nursing, dental assisting and dental hygiene) and a fitness center. A new aquatic center will also be built. Completion is scheduled for late spring 2010. Fencing has been erected around the building site for your protection. Also, renovation is taking place in Buildings 2, 4, 14 & 16. Buildings 2, 4 & 14 have been closed. Renovation work is expected to be completed late this fall.

Getting onto campus
Getting onto campus has changed. For access to the athletic fields, bookstore, child development center, EOPS/CARE, Regional Public Safety Center and departments such as cosmetology, fire science, horticulture, nursing, and technology, vehicles will only be allowed to veer right at what was the main entrance. For buildings on the other side of campus, it's recommended that you remain on Hillsdale Boulevard and enter on CSM Drive or continue driving on the boulevard to reach buildings such as 16 or 18. Look for signage for assistance. Also, expect delays in getting onto campus as a majority of vehicles will be entering the Hillsdale Boulevard entrance. Please proceed with caution and thank you for your patience.

Parking
Because of construction, virtually all of parking Lot 3 and Lot 4 have been closed. But parking all over campus has been impacted. Please visit collegeofsanmateo.edu/map for a current map designating parking lot changes. Examples of parking changes not reflected on the map include:
  • the Visitor Lot will be moved from Lot 3 to the north side of Lot 2
  • a number of spaces on the north end of Lot 2 have been converted from student parking to faculty/staff parking
  • Lot 19 is now a student lot
Foot Traffic
Once on campus, look for signage and campus employees wearing blue shirts for assistance as you navigate around construction. For the new location of programs and services that were housed in the now-closed Buildings 2 (Music), 4 (Art), 5 (Student Activities, Transfer Services, Main Cafeteria) and 14 (Business and Computers), visit the reception desk in Building 1 or call 650.574.6161.

Food Service
Finally, during construction, food service will be offered at the expanded Kiosk located in the upper quad and a "mobile kitchen" in front of the Library (Building 9). The Drip Coffee stand between Buildings 16 and 18 will also be open.

Additional Construction Information
Other new construction, such as the building of a new student center and administration building, is planned so please visit this site frequently for updates, or visit the District Facilities Project Information web site.
