*NEW! OnTRAC is a new program to assist students who are on probation or dismissal status in getting back into good academic standing, while enhancing their academic skills to persist in college and achieve their goals. Participation in OnTRAC will guarantee reinstatement for the following semester and may help show effort to be successful when submitting financial aid and BOG appeals.

Counseling Services are an essential resource to students and assist with the following:

  • sorting out and understanding educational options
  • establishing educational and career goals
  • developing a Student Educational Plan (SEP) as a guide to
    completing educational goals
  • tackling personal issues that interfere with personal and
    academic success

To utilize Counseling Services, students must first complete a New Student Orientation and Placement testing

Counseling Workshops
Counseling Services offers a variety of workshops to assist students with their specific educational goals. These workshops are designed for students to be active and informed participants in their education.

Student Orientation & Advising Workshop Schedule
The Student Orientation & Advising Workshop schedule is available on our Event Calendar page. You can also pick up the schedule at the Counseling Support Center.

Degree Works and Transcript Evaluation Services
All students who plan to complete a certificate, associate degree, and/or transfer to a university should use the new Degree Works tool. Additionally, students who have completed coursework at a college or university outside the San Mateo Community College District should have their previous transcripts evaluated during their first semester at CSM.

New Students
New students must complete a mandatory, in-person Student Orientation & Advising Workshop.

View our Student Orientation & Advising Workshop form for more information.

Returning Students
Welcome back to College of San Mateo. Services may have changed while you have been away. For returning students, there are steps that can be taken to stay updated. View our Returning Students form for more information.

Dismissed Students
Are you on Dismissal Status and unable to enroll in courses? You must attend a mandatory Reinstatement Workshop.

View our Reinstatement Workshop form for more information.

CSM Counseling Appointment "No Show" Policy
It is essential to arrive on time for your scheduled counseling appointment. If you are unable to keep the appointment, it is your responsibility to cancel or reschedule prior to the scheduled appointment. Arriving late or not showing up to a scheduled counseling appointment results in cancellation of the appointment and it is marked as a "no show".
