How to Become a CSM Athlete Reader and Leader
The Athletes as Readers and Leaders program is limited to current CSM varsity team athletes. The CSM Library works with the Mary Meta Lazarus Child Development Center, CSM athletic coaches, and classroom faculty to acquaint athletes to the program.
Athlete Readers are required to complete a one-hour orientation prior to reading to children in the center. Generally, athletes will attend an orientation with their team or as part of a related class.
During the orientation, athletes will learn how to work with preschool children, the benefits of reading aloud, how to select and read picture books, and how to engage children in dialogues about the benefits of good nutrition and exercise.
After completing an orientation athletes who are interested in participating in the program will be directed to an online site to register to participate in the program. Participating athletes are expected to read at least one picture book to children during the semester.
If you are a current CSM varsity team member please contact your coach to determine if an Athletes as Readers and Leaders orientation has been scheduled for your team.
CSM coaches and athletes who are interested in participating in this program are encouraged to contact Bryan Gerbig at email@example.com or call 650-574-6130
