College Council
Overview

College Council serves as the principal shared governance* forum in which appointed representatives provide advice to the college president and address issues related to institutional planning, that includes the college budget, enrollment management, facilities, diversity and accreditation, and other matters of college-wide interest. College Council expedites the business of the college by making referrals to appropriate committees and task forces.

The membership of College Council includes up to four members from each constituency group: Academic Senate, Student Senate, classified employees and Management Council. The college president and presidents of the Academic Senate and Student Senate are ex-officio members; all other members serve for two-year terms.

*CSM defines shared governance as "a set of structures and processes that involves the genuine participation of faculty, classified staff, students and administrators; it effectively captures their collective wisdom and voice to reach the best recommendations for the decision makers and for the good of the campus community."
(Reference: Implementing Shared Governance, 1993)
